LUCAMA, NC – Robbie Allison, the son of the late Davey Allison and grandson of NASCAR legend Bobby Allison, will be making his first ever race in a Late Model-style car on Friday night in the Charger portion of the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic.
Allison will be racing a car prepared by former Southern National Motorsports Park Charger division champion Wayne Goss. Allison has been racing in U-CARs and Street Stocks, but Friday’s race will mark the beginning of the 23-year-old driver’s transition into Late Model racing and, eventually, into NASCAR racing.
Allison tested the car with Wayne Goss and under the helpful eye of Lorin Ranier, who used to be a spotter for Jamie McMurray at Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates.
“The first thing I said when I got out of the car was that’s the most fun I’ve had in a racecar yet,” Allison said. “I’ve raced here at Southern National before in a little Allison Legacy car which, this might as well be Daytona in those little cars. I knew a little bit about the track but, obviously, didn’t have any big car experience out here.”
The transition from the cars he has been racing to Late Models will be tough but Allison is excited about beginning that transition on Friday night.
“I was really happy with it. Just thought it was a lot of fun. We still have plenty of transitioning to do and I have a lot to learn from Wayne Goss. We’ll just keep digging and see what happens I guess.”
Robbie Allison will race along with division champion Michael O’Brien, Robert Arch and a host of others in Friday night’s Charger feature race. Along with the Chargers, the Bandoleros, Street Stocks and Modifieds will be in action on Friday night, which is the first night of the three day, 10 race Thanksgiving All-Star Classic.
