Opening night at the 2016 Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park saw a mix of familiar faces and different faces in victory lane.
Kevin Benton scored the victory in Friday night’s Street Stock race, which was the opening act of the Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park. Benton, who is a regular in Street Stock competition, had a lot of speed and a little luck on his side to score the victory over Brandon Manning and Johnathan Kluge.
The Stancil Products Legends Cup 40 lap race was different from a normal race. Instead of being an individual effort, the race was a team effort and the team that consisted of Dillon Spain, Will Bristle and Mason Diaz went on to score the win. Saturday night will feature a 40 lap Legend Cars race, also presented by Stancil Products.
Robert Arch started second in the G&S Auto Body Chargers feature but he wasted no time getting to the lead in the race. Arch dominated from there on out leading up until rain halted the race on lap 35. The race was called after that with Arch scoring the win.
The Thanksgiving Classic continues on Saturday with racing for the Mini’s Mission Limited Late Models, Renfrow Heating & Air Southern Lightning Modifieds, Southeast Mini Stock Tour, Kenly Real Estate U-CARs and the Stancil Products Legend Cars. Those races will be preceded by qualifying and the Last Chance Qualifier race for the Late Model Stock Cars – the headline act in the Thanksgiving Classic which will be run on Sunday.
Races on Saturday begin at 4:15pm.
