NASCAR Sprint Cup Team BK Racing will sponsor the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car division at Southern National Motorsports Park for the 2016 season.
The BK Racing Late Models as they’ll be known as are the headline division at the 4/10 mile high banked short track. The BK Racing Late Models will compete at the track 18 times with nine sets of twin races starting on April 9th and concluding on September 10th.
When the green flag drops on the 2016 season at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday April 9th the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models will be competing for an increased purse boasting $2,000 to win.
The races will be split into twin feature races with $1,000 going to each race winner which will go a long way with the tracks two-tire rule in place limiting the amount of money teams have to spend to compete.
Track owner Michael Diaz is excited to have BK Racing on board as a sponsor for the 2016 season and is excited to be able to give the drivers a boost in purse.
“Ron (Devine, owner of BK Racing) and I have been friends and have worked together for a long time,” said Diaz. “We talked about this and he thought it was a great way to get involved in short track racing and giving back to the drivers that may someday compete for them in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. It’s exciting to have a team from NASCAR’s upper levels come on board with us.”
“The sponsorship helps us increase our purse to $2,000 to win each night and that’s going to be big for our competitors who only have to buy two new tires each race weekend,” explained Diaz. “I think this makes it more affordable and better for all the teams from first to last place and has the potential to really grow our field of cars.”
BK Racing owner Ron Devine has worked with Michael Diaz in other businesses for year and is equally excited to be a part of what should be a big season for Southern National Motorsports Park.
“I’ve known Michael (Diaz) for years,” explained Devine. “He’s doing good things there at Southern National and for us what better way to get involved in short track racing than to sponsor the Late Models there. I’m really looking forward to the sponsorship and working together with Michael for years to come.”
BK Racing drivers Matt DiBenedetto and David Ragan have both competed at Southern National Motorsports Park and both are excited about BK Racing’s involvement with the track.
“I talked with both Matt DiBenedetto and David Ragan and both said the same thing, that they love the facility and love the idea of the team being involved in short track racing at Southern National Motorsports Park,” commented Diaz.
The BK Racing Late Models will make their first start of the season on Saturday April 9th with Twin 50-lap races. Also on tap on opening night will be Chargers, U-Cars, Legends, Bandoleros and the always popular Southern Ground Pounders make their first visit of the season.
