LUCAMA, NC – John Vick has taken over the role as promoter at Southern National Motorsports Park, effective immediately.
Vick, who comes from Edenton, North Carolina, was previously the promoter at East Carolina Motor Speedway in Robersonville, North Carolina. Under his tenure, Vick earned an enormous amount of respect from fans, crews and competitors.
“I come from East Carolina Motor Speedway which is a great track,” Vick said. “I’ve always wanted to have a track with these facilities. I want to do more with racing than what I’ve been able to do in the past. I had a great time at East Carolina. The Perry family was just the best in the world. Just looking forward to new beginnings and trying to do some bigger things.”
Vick hopes to grow Southern National Motorsports Park even more over the months and years ahead.
“My vision for Southern National is really to get the fans involved with the track, get the drivers involved with the fans at the track and make Southern National Motorsports Park the foremost track on the East Coast,” Vick explained. “I think there’s a lot that can be put to the future at Southern National. It can truly become Southern National Motorsports Park. I think there’s a lot more to offer than just racing here. I think concerts would be great. It’s a perfect venue for an outdoor festival or concert and I’m interested and ready to do anything that it takes to make this the place to be.”
Vick’s first race as Southern National Motorsports Park’s promoter will be the Halloween Spooktacular on Saturday, November 24th. His second will be the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic, one of the region’s biggest and most prestigious races.
“I’m very excited,” Vick said about the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic.. “I’ve never been to the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic. I’ve heard a lot about them and know it’s one of the foremost races of the entire season and I’m really excited. The Late Model Stock Cars, since I’ve gotten involved with racing, has really got that passion running through my veins. Not just the Late Models but the U-CARs, Legends and other divisions. Racing’s just gotten in my blood and I believe, if you’ve got a passion for something, you’re going to be successful. If you’re going to be successful, you’re going to grow and that’s what I’m looking forward to at Southern National.”
For Vick, it’s not just about the racing itself but about the people in the pits and in the stands each week.
“It’s the people that I work with, I love to surround myself with these people,” Vick commented. “The drivers and fans around here are the best in the state and it makes it really easy to do what we do and I’m looking forward to continuing to do it for years to come.”
