LUCAMA, NC – Championship battles at Southern National Motorsports Park are heating up in the “dog days of summer” heading into Saturday night’s Supreme Pools Summer Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park.
While Grady has been the dominant driver in the Late Model division, he finds himself only second in points, tied with teammate Jonathan Findley. The points lead actually belongs to Rusty Daniels. Daniels has been consistent all season long which has paid off. Grady is still trying to recover points lost when he was involved in an accident in the Jerry Moody Memorial on May 17th. The Late Model division will run twin races on Saturday night, giving Grady two opportunities to take over the points lead from Daniels.
The Summer Classic will be the first of three opportunities for drivers in the Legends and Bandolero divisions to gain points at the track and in the INEX standings. Along with Saturday night’s races, the Legends and Bandoleros will be racing twice on Sunday. Will Bristle leads Mason Diaz by 14 points and Chris Stancil by 15 points in the Legends division. The Bandolero division has Josh Kossek, who has won twice this season, leading by four points over Kailey Murray. Murray has been close to victory all season.
Michael O’Brien leads the Charger division standings by only one point over Paul Williamson and six over Al Coobs. O’Brien has two wins on the year while Travis Green, who was involved in a wreck in the most recent race, has one win. The Charger division will be the only division where drivers have only one opportunity to gain points this weekend.
The U-CAR division will also feature multiple chances for drivers to gain points. They will have twin races on Saturday night as part of The Ultimate Body Shop Triple Crown U-CAR Series. Travis Miller and Tyler Horne, who have one win each, are tied for the points lead with Lee Horner only seven points out of first. Joseph Pittman sits 11 points back and Brandon Allen sits 14 points back. With a large field of U-CARs expected, Saturday night’s twin races could shake up the point standings dramatically.
Saturday night’s Summer Classic gets underway at 7pm EST. Along with the Late Models, Chargers, Legends, U-CARs and Bandoleros, Saturday’s race will feature the debut of the new Stingers division as well as a Monster Truck exhibition previewing the Monster Truck show on Saturday night, August 15th. Along with the racing, kids will get to ride in racecars with the drivers around the track for free prior to the start of Saturday night’s race.
Sunday’s INEX doubleheader gets underway at 1pm with twin 15 lap races for the Bandoleros and twin 25 lap races for the Legends cars.
