LUCAMA, NC – When Ron Twist moved to North Carolina when he was 19, the reason was stock car racing. Now, Twist will be competing in the Accent Imaging Day of Destruction at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday night while also giving back to the community.
The 40-year-old from Princeton, North Carolina has been selling raffle tickets for much of the season for a racecar that will compete in the Day of Destruction, with proceeds benefiting Zoweh Ministries out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina. For Twist, it’s about giving back to a ministry that has given to him while also giving a lucky fan an opportunity to compete in the Day of Destruction.
“I’ve always wanted to give something back to Zoweh Ministries,” Twist said. “These guys helped me go to men’s conferences for seven years. It’s about $300 to go and they paid my way. They saw what God was doing in my heart and what I did for other people. Zoweh, their beliefs are about the heart. And this is my way of giving back.”
It’s not just about giving back to Zoweh Ministries, but also giving someone else an opportunity to participate in something they’ve always wanted.
“There’s going to be someone in the grandstands that has always yearned to go on the track in a car,” Twist explained. “Whoever wins that ticket, it’s going to do something for their heart that night because it does for mine every time I go on the track.”
When Twist was a kid, growing up in Maine, he dreamed of moving south when he got older because of his love for NASCAR racing. When he was 19-years-old, that’s what he did.
“The first thing I did when I moved to Wayne County was search out the local short track,” Twist remarked. “Here I was at Southern National in 2003 and I’ve been coming here ever since. We come out here about three or four times each summer.”
While one lucky fan will win the Zoweh Ministries racecar on Saturday night, Twist will also get to compete in the Day of Destruction himself.
The Accent Imaging Day of Destruction will get underway at 6pm on Saturday night. Tickets will be available at the track the night of the event.
