LUCAMA, NC – Southern National Motorsports Park made a handful of changes to the 2016 season schedule, primarily in the month of July, to accommodate regional racers.
The biggest change to the schedule is that Southern National Motorsports Park will no longer hold a race on Independence Day Weekend. The move was made to accommodate racers who plan to compete in holiday events at Wake County Speedway and Carteret County Speedway.
“We changed the month of July around a little bit to make it more racer friendly,” Southern National Motorsports Park track owner Michael Diaz said. “We removed the July 2nd race because of other tours and tracks running special events and I had several racers call and talk to me about them wanting to attend those shows. I don’t want to try and compete for cars on a major holiday weekend with other tracks. It is going to be hard enough to keep the car counts up this year on regular weekends.
“We feel these changes are for the best for our racers and our staff.”
Southern National Motorsports Park’s regular season will get underway on Saturday, April 9th with twin races for the BK Racing Late Models as well as races for the Chargers, Legends, U-CARs, Bandoleros and the Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club. The new LFR Chassis Pro Late Model series at Southern National Motorsports Park will make its debut on Saturday, April 23rd.
Southern National Motorsports Park will kick off the season for the Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) Tour on Sunday, March 3rd. The CARS Tour race features 150 laps of Late Model Stock Car racing and 150 laps of Super Late Model racing and is the first of two stops the series will make at Southern National Motorsports Park.
