LUCAMA, NC – Southern National Motorsports Park competitors, past and present, fared well in the Valley Star Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday with the 2014 champion, Tommy Lemons, Jr., winning the race.
The Valley Star Credit Union 300 is Late Model Stock Car racing’s biggest race and is held every October.
Lemons, who won the track championship at Southern National Motorsports Park in 2014, won the race for the second time in three years on Sunday holding off Lee Pulliam, who won the season finale at Southern National a few weeks ago.
“I said it a couple times tonight, you know,” Lemons said. “When I get to hang my helmet up and my driving shoes, I get to say I’m a two time Martinsville winner. Not a lot of people can say that.”
Todd Gilliland, who finished second in last year’s Autumn Classic and won at Southern National Motorsports Park back in March, dominated much of the race but a late race caution was his undoing. He ended up finishing 24th.
Brayton Haws, winner of last year’s Autumn Classic, finished seventh in the race. Four-time Southern National Motorsports Park track champion Jamey Caudill finished ninth. Ryan Wilson, who raced regularly at Southern National in 2014, finished 10th. Former Southern National race winner Josh Berry finished 13th. Myatt Snider, who finished second in points in 2014, finished 27th.
Two events remain in the 2015 season at Southern National Motorsports Park. The Halloween Spooktacular will commence for the second time on October 24th featuring a 70 lap Limited Late Model race as well as races for the U-CARs, Legends, Bandoleros and a Powder Puff showdown race.
Late Model Stock Car racing’s final 2015 event will be held at Southern National on the weekend of November 27th-29th with the Thanksgiving All-Star Classic. More will be announced about this event in the upcoming days and weeks.
