K&N Championship Night Reset for October 6th & 13th at SNMP

Southern National Motorsports Park has made the decision to move the K&N Championship night originally scheduled for this Saturday, September 22nd to October 6th and 13th.

Originally set to have twins in nearly every division this Saturday, the finale will now take place on two different dates with champions crowned on both nights. First up will be the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car and Legends championships, which will be crowned on October 6th. Then the Limited Late Models, Chargers, Mini Stock, Bandoleros and Any Car championship will be crowned during the Spooktacular on October 13th.

Southern National Motorsports Park officials made this decision after looking at the flooding and devastation to the areas just southeast of the track.

"With all the rain and flooding to the surrounding area and people’s lives right now upside down from the storm it is best to move it to Oct 6th," said track owner Michael Diaz. "People will not even begin to calculate the damage and start to clean up till the weekend. And we want to relieve them of the pressure of getting cars ready to race. They need to focus on family and friends and getting their lives back on track."

Diaz also wants championship night to be something special for the teams, drivers, and fans and thinks that the change gives them the best chance to put their best foot forward.

"Championship nights need to be special, so moving the race is what makes the most sense. I have talked to a number of drivers and they all agree. This is the best move for everyone given the situation we've been given."

The original plan was to run all the divisions on October 6th but due to East Carolina Motor Speedway rescheduling their rainout from this past Sunday to the same date, the idea was not to conflict the divisions with guys running both tracks.

"I tried to reach out and work with John Vick from East Carolina on rescheduling so that we didn't have to go on top of one another," commented Diaz. "I thought with their original season finale being scheduled for Sunday, they could run Sunday, October 7th and we could cross promote for the racers but after conversations with them and letting them know we'd be running October 6th, they rushed to get that date out there this morning. It's unfortunate for the racer but we're going to do the right thing and not run the divisions where we have drivers running both tracks in an effort to not put the racer in a position to choose which track to run."

With October 6th off the table for the Chargers and Mini Stocks, Southern National added the already scheduled Spooktacular as a championship night for those two divisions as well as the Limited Late Models, Bandoleros and Any Cars.

The added October 6th makes October an even bigger month at Southern National Motorsports Park with the Spooktacular on the 13th and the Second Annual Day of Destruction taking place on October 27th. The month of November schedule is also being shuffled around as the Enduro race set for November 3rd has been removed from the schedule due to a lack of commitment from competitors. The Enduro will be considered to be added for the 2019 schedule.

The Thanksgiving Classic is scheduled to conclude the 2018 season on November 23-25th. Details on this annual event will be released in the coming days.
