LUCAMA, NC – Fans will get to experience the fast, intense and thrilling action of Mini Cup racing at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday night, June 13th.
The Virginia Mini Cup Racing Association (VMCRA) and the Piedmont Mini Cup Racing Association will both come to Southern National Motorsports Park on June 13th as part of the School’s Out Kickoff Party, joining Southern National Motorsports Park’s five regular divisions. The Mini Cups are similar in size to the Bandoleros but are much faster and with large fields expected, the racing will be intense.
“We’re excited about having the Mini Cups come to Southern National,” Southern National Motorsports Park track promoter Langley Austin said. “The Mini Cups always put on a great show and I think the fans are really going to enjoy this.”
The Virginia Mini Cups race predominantly at Shenandoah Speedway in Virginia. Southern National Motorsports Park will mark the only trip outside of Virginia for the series. The Piedmont Mini Cups, which are based out of Concord, race all over the region.
The cars themselves look a lot like NASCAR racecars but are the size of a Bandolero racecar. At some tracks, the Mini Cups run laps times comparable to those of the upper divisions.
“Just because these cars are small doesn’t mean they’re not fast,” Austin remarked. “They’re fast, wide open and the racing often looks like what you’d expect from a NASCAR race at Daytona. These cars are a lot of fun to watch and a lot of fun for the drivers to race.
“We’re expecting a large field of Mini Cups between the two series. A lot of these guys raced with me in Virginia and are excited to come down and compete. It should make for a great race with very few of the drivers ever having competed at Southern National.”
The School’s Out Kickoff Party at Southern National Motorsports Park will be the first regular season race since the thrilling Jerry Moody Memorial, which was held on May 17th. Matt McCall’s win in the Jerry Moody Memorial picked up national mainstream coverage from NBC Sports on cable and online as well as NASCAR.com.
The School’s Out Kickoff Party will feature twin Late Model features as well as racing for the Charger, Legend, U-CAR and Bandolero divisions and the Virginia Mini Cup Racing Association and the Piedmont Mini Cup Racing Association.
