LUCAMA, NC – Drivers in the Legends and Bandolero divisions will have three opportunities to gain points at Southern National Motorsports this weekend.
With races on tap for Saturday night in the Summer Classic and Sunday afternoon, the INEX divisions will get several chances to gain points in the Southern National Motorsports Park championship standings as well as in the INEX national standings.
2014 Southern National Motorsports Park Legends division champion Will Bristle leads the championship standings. Bristle has a win, a second place finish and a third place finish on the 2015 season so far. He leads Mason Diaz, who has two top-five finishes on the season, by 14 points.
“I’m going to try to gain ground,” current Legends division championship runner-up Mason Diaz said. “Hopefully I can. I’m always going for the win. If it happens, it happens. I’m just going out and trying my best. Right now, it’s seat time but I’m always thinking about points, I always want points.”
One point behind them is Chris Stancil. Zack Brown and Kade Lambert round out the top-five in points.
The Legends division at Southern National Motorsports Park has not seen a repeat winner all season. Will Bristle, Dillon Spain and Alex Pacheco each have one win on the season.
The Bandolero division has seen a repeat winner in Josh Kossek who has two wins. Kossek scored a win over Kailey Murray in the season’s third race back on June 13th. Murray dominated the June 13th race but was spun off the front bumper of Zack Lightfoot – she came back through the field to finish second. Murray currently sits second in points, four points behind Kossek.
“We have been working on the car a lot and we’re going to try to beat Josh this weekend,” Bandolero driver Kailey Murray said. “We’re going to try our best to bring home three wins.”
Kade Lambert, who has a win and a runner-up this season, is third in points, 11 points behind Kossek. Ethan Johnson sits in fourth, 13 points behind Kossek, and Dustin Yeoman is fifth, 20 points back.
The Legends will race for 25 laps on Saturday night and will then run twin 25 lap races on Sunday. The Bandolero division will run 15 laps on Saturday night and twin 15 lap races on Sunday afternoon.
Saturday night’s Summer Classic also features twin Late Model races as well as twin U-CAR races as part of the Ultimate Body Shop U-CAR Triple Crown Series and racing for the Charger and the new Stinger divisions. Tickets for Saturday night’s race ($15 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12, kids 5 and under free) are good for admission to Sunday’s race. Standalone tickets for Sunday are $5.
