LUCAMA, NC – The Inaugural Jerry Moody Memorial, which will be run on Sunday, May 17th, will now feature Davis Farm Pole Awards in every division.
The posted awards will be $250 to the driver who sets the fastest lap in Late Model qualifying and $50 to the fastest qualifier in the Charger, U-CAR, Legends and Bandolero divisions.
“They said they didn’t have anything for the pole so I decided to boost it up a little and help out,” Wendell Davis said. “Jerry and I were very tight. He was always a good friend. My sister married him. I asked [track promoter Langley Austin], I was looking to help the race and he said he didn’t have a pole award so I figured it was something to help the race.”
Davis is a long-time car owner and a long-time friend of the late Jerry Moody. The two worked together in racing for many years and, in fact, Jerry married Wendell’s sister, Becky, in 1986.
“Jerry and I were very tight,” Davis said. “He was always a good friend. My sister married him. I’m glad to see them do something for Jerry. He helped a lot of good people. He was a good man… Jerry was first class. I learned a lot from him. Just a good person. You won’t find anybody like him, total package.”
Davis owns several cars in Late Model Stock Car racing, including cars driven by Matt McCall, Michael Fose, Gerald Benton and a Limited Late Model piloted by Chris Chapman.
“We’re glad Wendell came on board to sponsor the pole award for this race,” track promoter Langley Austin said. “I want this race to be the biggest race in the Spring and I’m excited we have pole awards for every division that will be racing next Sunday.”
Davis said that he hopes to start three cars in next Sunday’s race – McCall, Fose and Benton.
The Jerry Moody Memorial will go green next Sunday at 3pm with racing in the “I Dig Pigs 100” for the Late Model division as well as racing in the Charger, U-CAR, Legends and Bandolero divisions.
