Burt Myers returns to Southern National Motorsports Park

LUCAMA, NC – Burt Myers is one of the most accomplished drivers in Open Wheel Modified racing history, and he is set to return to Southern National Motorsports Park in Saturday’s North-South Shootout.

Myers has 107 feature wins in a Tour-Type Modified at Bowman Gray Stadium, where he has also amassed 12 championships alongside multiple championships in both the SMART Modified Tour and the former NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.  Now, he is eyeing his third North-South Shootout triumph and his fourth victory at Southern National.

“I’ve always loved Southern National,” Myers said.  “Usually run really good there.  I think I’ve won there twice there in my career.  The SMART Tour came there in 2022 if I’m not mistaken and we ran third.  So, yeah, I’m really looking forward to it.  The North-South Shootout is always a fun event.  It’s the best of the best that usually show up, so when you can take home a win in one of those events, it’s pretty special.”

The North-South Shootout had previously been held at the now defunct Concord Speedway, where Myers scored both of his wins in the event, as well as at Hickory Motor Speedway and Caraway Speedway.  This season, it is being held at Southern National for the first time, kicking off the biggest month of November in speedway history.

The 24th Annual North-South Shootout has drawn some of the biggest names in Modified racing to the track, including nine-time Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series champion Matt Hirschman, who won the last time Modifieds raced at Southern National in 2022.  Other heavy hitters include Andy Seuss, Ryan Newman, Carson Loftin, Cayden Lapcevich, Luke Baldwin, and Brandon Ward, among the 25 entries set to compete on Saturday.

Myers considers the North-South Shootout to be one of the biggest races in all of Open Wheel, Tour-Type Modified racing.

“It’s up there with Wilkesboro being in the mix with the SMART Tour and then the King of the Modifieds at South Boston,” Myers explained.  “Those are big events but the North-South Shootout is one that everybody strives to win.  It’s the last race of the year for us basically, so everybody wants to go out on a high note.”

While the goal for every racer is to win, Myers will be satisfied with nothing less.

“That’s why we go,” Myers stated.  “If I didn’t that that I had a shot to win, I wouldn’t go.  That’s why we go is to win and see if we can take home a trophy.”

Myers will also compete in the 75-lap 602 Modified race which is a part of the six race lineup.

The green flag for the 24th Annual North-South Shootout will fly at 5:30pm on Saturday, with Legends, Chargers, Any Cars, and Vintage Modifieds & Sportsman also on the schedule along with the 125-lap Tour-Type Modified main event and 75-lap 602 Modified feature.

Tickets are available online at snmpark.com and at the gate on race day.  The race will also be available as a pay-per-view broadcast on Ultra Broadcasting.
