LUCAMA, NC – Southern National Motorsports Park will be honoring the memory of Jerry Moody during the 2026 renewal of Speed Week with the Jerry Moody Memorial I Dig Pigs 125 presented by Big Kahuna Pools and Spas on Wednesday, March 4.

Moody, who passed away in November 2013, was a longtime presence at Southern National dating back to its early years, fielding championship winning rides for names such as Scott Riggs, Jamey Caudill, and Matt McCall.  Throughout the years, the “I Dig Pigs” no. 50 car became synonymous with both Southern National and with success in Late Model Stock Car racing.

“Jerry Moody was a great man and a great ambassador for our sport and the track,” Southern National Motorsports Park track owner Michael Diaz said.  “He did a lot for the racers here at Southern National and set a benchmark for excellence.  We first ran a race in his memory in 2015, and I’m honored that we are bringing it back with the blessing from the Moody family.”

The Jerry Moody Memorial will be the second race in the I-95 Showdown, a series run between Ultra Racing Association (URA) tracks Southern National and Florence Motor Speedway.  The first round of the I-95 Showdown will take place on Saturday, February 7 at Florence.

“It really means a lot to me and my family for them to run this race in honor of my daddy,” Haley Moody, Jerry Moody’s daughter, said.  “I really appreciate Michael Diaz for putting this race together.  The plan right now is I will be running this race if all the sponsorship comes through and that’s going to be awesome to honor my dad and getting to get back behind the wheel of a racecar.”

Haley Moody won a track championship in the Limited Late Model division at Southern National Motorsports Park back in 2014.  Prior to that, she had raced in the Charger division, driving for her father.

Southern National Motorsports Park first ran the Jerry Moody Memorial back in May 2015 – a race won by Matt McCall.
